Dagon’s Intensive Grow-Out Facility: Sustainable Practices for Premium Fish Production

At Dagon’s intensive grow-out facility, we manage 40 concrete ponds, utilizing both circular and octagonal designs. This carefully engineered pond structure allows us to maximize production efficiency and maintain optimal conditions for the cultivation of four key species: sea bream, red drum, barramundi, and seabass.

Tailored Growth Cycles for Each Species

Our production cycle is tailored to each species’ biological needs. Red drum and sea bream grow from an initial size of 2g to a market-ready weight of 1kg within 12 months, showcasing rapid and efficient growth. Meanwhile, barramundi and seabass require a longer grow-out cycle, taking 18 to 20 months to reach full maturity. Barramundi are raised from 20g to 1kg, while seabass typically grow to between 550g and 660g over this time.

Efficient Nursery and Grow-Out Transition

Our aquaculture process begins with fish being introduced to nursery ponds, each with a capacity of approximately 100 cubic meters. These nursery ponds provide a controlled environment for the early stages of growth. Once the fish reach a weight of 150 to 200g, they are transferred to larger grow-out ponds, which hold 750 cubic meters of water. This gradual transition ensures that the fish experience minimal stress and continue to grow in optimal conditions.

Sustainable Water Management Systems

A cornerstone of our operation is the use of a closed recirculating system that combines both freshwater and seawater, creating an ideal aquatic environment. Water quality is maintained through a sophisticated filtration process that includes natural biofiltration, where water circulates through open ponds, and drum filters, ensuring a clean and balanced system. This approach not only supports fish health but also promotes environmental sustainability by reducing water usage and minimizing waste.

Phased Feeding Strategy for Optimal Growth

To support the varying nutritional needs of each species, we implement a phased feeding strategy. This approach allows us to adjust feed size according to the growth stage, beginning with 1.5 mm pellets and gradually increasing to 6 mm as the fish near their market size. This precise feeding regimen ensures optimal growth rates and feed conversion efficiency. Upon reaching maturity, our high-quality fish are harvested and marketed primarily to the Israeli fish market.

We pride ourselves on providing fresh, premium-grade seafood that meets the highest industry standards. Through our commitment to sustainable practices, we ensure a steady and reliable supply of seafood, meeting both the growing demand for quality fish and the environmental challenges of modern aquaculture.
